ProForm 831.297442 Treadmill User Manual

8
As you walk or run on the treadmill, position yourself
near the center of the walking belt. For the console
to display heart rate readings, the user must be
within arm’s length of the console.
The chest pulse sensor is designed to work with
people who have normal heart rhythms. Heart rate
reading problems may be caused by medical
conditions such as premature ventricular contractions
(pvcs), tachycardia bursts, and arrhythmia.
The operation of the chest pulse sensor can be
affected by magnetic interference caused by high
power lines or other sources. If it is suspected that
magnetic interference may be causing a problem,
try relocating the treadmill.
The CR 2032 battery may need to be replaced.
Locate the battery cover
on the back of the sen-
sor unit. Insert a coin
into the slot in the cover,
turn the cover counter-
clockwise, and remove
it. Remove the old bat-
tery and insert a new CR
2032 battery, making
sure that the battery is
turned so the writing is
on top. Make sure that
the rubber gasket is in
place in the sensor unit.
Replace the battery
cover and turn it clock-
wise to close it.
The convenient hand pulse sensor allows you to
measure your heart rate without wearing the chest
pulse sensor. You can measure your heart rate before
you begin exercising, during your workout, and again
when you finish.
To use the hand pulse sensor, the console must be
turned on (see HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on
page 11.) In addition, the walking belt must be moving
or the TIME/PACE display must be flashing (see step
5 on page 12).
Next, stand on
the foot rails and
place your hands
on the metal con-
tacts. Your palms
must be resting
on the upper
contacts, and
your fingers must
be touching the
lower contacts—
avoid moving
your hands while
measuring your heart rate. After a moment, three
dashes (– – –) will appear in the CALS./FAT CALS./
PULSE display and your heart rate will be shown. For
the most accurate heart rate reading, continue to hold
the contacts for about 15 seconds.
HAND PULSE SENSOR TROUBLE-SHOOTING
Make sure to stand on the foot rails and avoid moving
your hands while measuring your heart rate.
Excessive movement may interfere with heart rate
readings. If the hand pulse sensor is not used
correctly, three dashes (– – –) will appear repeatedly
in the CALS./FAT CALS./PULSE display but your
heart rate will not be shown.
Do not hold the metal contacts too tightly; doing so
may interfere with heart rate readings.
For the most accurate heart rate reading, wait for
about 15 seconds.
For optimal performance of the hand pulse sensor,
keep the metal contacts clean. The contacts can be
cleaned with a soft cloth—never use alcohol,
abrasives, or chemicals.
