Thebladecontrolis usedto engagethe
mowerdeck.Toengagethiscontrol,press
andholdthe leveragainstthehandlebar
grip.Tostopthe blades,releasethe blade
control.Alwaysdisengagethe blade
controlbeforestartingthe engine.This
helpsto ensurethatthe bladeswillnot
startturningwhenthe enginestarts.
DRIVE CONTROL
Thedrivecontrolis usedto engage
anddisengagedriveto thewheels.To
engagethiscontrol,squeezethe drive
controlagainstthe handlebargrip.To
stopthedrive,releasethe drivecontrol.
IMPORTANT:Alwaysreleasethe drive
controlbeforechangingspeeds.
GEAR SHIFT LEVER
Usethisleverto selectanyoffour forwardgroundspeeds,neutral,or
reverse.

Recoil Starter
The recoilstarteris usedto pull-starttheengine.
Oil Drain Valve
Usethe oil drainvalveto drainoil fromthe engine.Refertothe
Maintenancesectionfor instructions.
Air Cleaner Handle
Theaircleanerhandleis usedto gainaccessto theair cleaner.The air
cleanercartridgecan beremovedandcleanedor replaced.Referto
the Maintenancesectionfordetails.
Forward
Therearefourforwardspeeds.Positionone(1)is theslowestand
positionfour(4) is thefastest.
Reverse
Toselectreverse,putthe leverin the Reverse(R) position.
Neutral
Placethe leverinneutral(N) beforestartingthemower,andwhen the
moweris notinuse.In addition,the mowercan be manuallypushed
orpulledby placingthegearshiftleverinto N(neutral)positionand
pressingthe drivecontrolagainstthe handlebargrip.
Ifcartridgeor coverareinstalledincorrectly,seriousinjuryordeath
could resultfrombackfire.Donot attempttostartyourenginewith
them removed.
Spark Plug/Spark Plug Wire
Referto theMaintenancesectionfor instructionson sparkplug
replacement.
Oil Cap/Dipstick
Referto theMaintenancesectionfor instructionsoncheckingtheoil.
To avoiddamagingthe transmission,do notshift gearswhenthe
mowerismoving.Releasedrive controlbeforeshiftinggears.
Lookbehindthe mowerbeforeandduringreverseoperation.Stop
the mowerbladesbeforeoperatingin reverse.
