or pilotlightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
iMPORTANT:Fuelleftinthefueltankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwillcauseseriousstartingproblems.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeofgasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocalauthoritiesforapproveddisposalmethods.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionoftheengine,thefuelsystemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,or thegasolinemustbetreatedwitha
stabilizertopreventdeterioration.
1. Ifusinga fuelstabilizer:
• Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecommenda-
tions.
• Addtoclean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountof stabilizerfor
thecapacityofthefuelsystem.
• Fillthefueltankwithtreatedfuelandruntheenginefor2-3
minutestogetstabilizedfuelintothecarburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthefuelsystem:
• Donotdrainfuelwhentheengineishot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimetocool.Drainfuelintoanapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
• Drainanylargevolumeoffuelfromthetankbydisconnectingthe
fuellinefromthein-linefuelfilter neartheengine.
Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcanbeexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringtheequipmentforextended
periods.Drainfuelonlyintoan approvedcontaineroutdoors,away
fromanopenflame.Allowenginetocool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof ignitionpriortodrainingfuel.
Storegasolinein anapprovedcontainerin safelocation.
• Reconnectthefuellineandruntheengineuntilitstartsto falter,
thenusethechoketo keeptheenginerunninguntilallfuelinthe
carburetorhasbeenexhausted.
• Againdisconnectthefuellineanddrainanyremaininggasoline
fromthesystem.
3. Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceofengineoil
throughthesparkplugholeintothecylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimestodistributetheoil.Replacethesparkplug.

• Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhosetocleanyourunit.
Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea.Donotstorenexttocorrosive
materials,suchasfertilizer.
