Selecting the Recording Mode
The camcorder offers 4 recording
modes in high definition and
3 recording modes in standard
definition. Changing the recording
mode will change the recording time
available on the disc. Select XP+ or XP
mode for better movie quality; select LP
mode for longer recording times.
The following table gives approximate
recording times with a brand new DVD
disc (on a single recording side).
Default value in high definition
1 Press .
2 Select ( ) the recording mode
icon.
3 Select ( ) the desired recording
mode.
4 Press again to save the
setting and close the menu.
NOTES
Recording in LP mode gives you a
longer recording time; however,
depending on the condition of the disc
(long usage, imperfections, etc.) the
picture and sound recorded in LP mode
may be distorted. We recommend using
XP+ or XP mode for important
recordings.
The camcorder uses a variable bit rate
(VBR) when encoding the video data so
the actual recording times will vary
depending on the content of the scenes.
Selecting the Aspect Ratio of your
Recordings
(16:9 Widescreen or 4:3)
When recording in high definition, the
scenes recorded will have an aspect
ratio of 16:9 (Widescreen). In standard
definition, you can select the aspect
ratio of your recordings to match that of
your TV.
