Hello, i can't seem to tighten the belt.. not 100...

Hello, i can't seem to tighten the belt.. not 100% sure if I'm following the instructions correctly.. when turned on the belt runs fine and its centered. When I step on the belt it will like skip/slip or the belt stops like I'm too heavy.. any why to help ? thanks so much.. Susan
