5 The tachymeter measures speed over a 1 mile distance. Start the second hand at the beginning of the 1 mile distance and stop the second hand at the end of the 1 mile distance. (Requires a marked course on the road and the stopwatch feature of the watch) Read the speed in mph on the tachymeter scale. (Speed range is 60mph to 300mph) Works on the simple relationship of: Velocity = Distance divided by Time. The cool part is that the tachymeter works for any unit of measurement; Miles, Kilometers, Furlongs, etc... whatever you want. It is measuring units of distance per hour.
