Product Problem: Computer Panel Problem

My kids were playing on my elliptical (after being told not to!!) and managed to jack-up the settings on the computer panel. Neither child knows what they pushed, how many times or in what order but now, regardless of what workout I choose, the panel readings shut off after 5 minutes and 14 seconds. Additionally, the timer and heartrate monitor are the only read-outs that now work. Speed, distance, calorie and pulse remain at zero no matter what! I contacted New Balance and they told me that machine needs a new internal cable but I'm not so sure. This happened within days of buying the machine. I had used it a total of twice with great results before my kids got a hold of it. If the cable wiring were shot I doubt that I would be getting any read-out at all. I've taken the machine apart and put it back together again, I've replaced the batteries with fresh batteries and still the same result. Interestingly, when I changed the batteries the read-out claimed that the batteries were less than half full of juice and needed to be changed. Does anyone know what may be going on here??? I love this machine and hate that I can't use it!

Correction...I contridicted myself. I stated that the pulse feature doesn't work after stating that it at the time read-out are the only things registering. What does not work are the speed, distance and calorie read-outs. Time and pulse work however; again, the time will shut off after 5 minutes and 14 seconds regardless of the selected workout time. THANKS!
